When an organisation opens sites in several countries, the same question comes back every time. The data cabling has to go in, technical cabinets have to be built and the electrical work has to be right. What often goes wrong is that each site gets a different contractor. That means a different finish, a different quality level and a different contact.
For Iron Mountain we solve that by doing it ourselves, in the Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium. We supply and install the network cabling, the technical cabinets and patch cabinets and the electrical work that goes with them.
It does not start with cable. It starts with a plan. For every site we agree up front when, what and how. The client knows exactly what to expect: which crew comes, what happens that week and when it is finished. On a new build with a fixed handover date, that is not a luxury. It is a condition.

From bare concrete to a connected building
A new hall is a building site full of other trades. We plan our work so that we are in on time without holding anyone up.
The cable routes run along the trays and beams under the roof. We choose them so they stay clear of the sprinklers, the lighting and the air handling, and so there is room left to expand. Whoever lays it tight the first time pays for it at every change.
Then the technical cabinets go into place, the cabling is terminated on the patch panels and we do the electrical work. We keep materials and finish at the same level as in the Netherlands: the same brands, the same mounting materials, the same way of labelling. That is why the client does not have to think about quality again in every country.

Questions about cabling and cabinets at several sites
Do you work abroad?
Yes. For this client we work in the Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium. We send our own people, with our own materials and our own planning.
Do you also do the electrical work?
Yes. Besides the network cabling and the technical cabinets we supply and install the electrical work that goes with them, so you do not need a separate party for it.
How do we know up front where we stand?
You get a plan in advance that says when we come, what we do and when it is ready. During the work that plan stays the reference point, and your fixed contact keeps you updated.
Does the quality stay the same per site?
We steer on that deliberately. The same people, brands and finishing materials at every site, so you do not have to agree per country how it should be handed over.
Do you also advise on security?
Yes. We advise on the network, the internet and security, for example alarm and CCTV. Including it in the cabling up front saves drilling and breaking later.
Can you meet a hard handover date?
That is what we plan for. When we say something is ready, it is tested and complete, so the next trade can continue and the site opens on time.
